How Blogs Make Money

The internet is a great place to make money and sometimes that money comes in ways you don’t even realize. The next time you are on your friends blog or the next time you are on that low rent sports page you should take the time to look at the entire page and you might just be finding out that there is more money to be made on that page than you ever thought before.

Most blogs and websites out there don’t operate of their own accord. Sure the content on the site might be that of the blog authors but that doesn’t mean that everything you see is theirs. For instance, all the advertising on the side of the page and underneath the content is all by an ad company. Here’s the way it works in many cases: these sites contact advertising companies about being a part of their network. The ad companies decide if there is enough traffic for them to bother. They agree in many cases and work out a price. Many times it’s a per click price. So for every 1000 page views the ad agency might put out 5 dollars to the owner of the website. This happens and perhaps the web owner is contracted with several different web pages. Then as the clicks come in there is more than just a few networks at work. All of this is working to earn the owner of the website money. Of course there are times when a company will come along and ask to rent out the entire ad space on the site for a flat fee. Say 3 weeks for 2,000 dollars. The fact of the matter is that there is more than enough money to be made online and next time you are on a website you can look and see for yourself.

Bumping Your Ad Listing

Sometimes the details make all the difference. Let’s take the competitive and complicated world of online advertising. Everyone knows just how hard it is to get their product or event advertised on the internet. You know just how hard it is to get the people to come out even once they see it online. There are a lot of you small business owners out there who are using your online advertising but are using it in the wrong way. There are ways to keep your business going and there are just ways you are missing the boat. Here is some very simple ways to increase the traffic to your site, product, or event.

The first thing to do, especially if you have a live event, is to take up space in the local listings. Call or email your local newspaper and see about free event listings. Most places are more than happy to do this for you and will do it free of charge. They provide the service for their readers and in turn those readers get free listings.
The listings aren’t the only thing you need to do. Many people make the mistake of doing nothing with the listings once they are done. You need to stay ahead of the curve and “bump” your listing. Let’s say you are doing a theatrical performance, after the first performance you can comment on it anonymously. Have friends do the same and say positive things without seeming as if they work for you. Once they do that it will show others that happen upon the website that there is something out there worth seeing and that should make for better attendance numbers all around. Advertising can be very helpful if you go that extra step. If you do not then you can expect the same result you always get. No one wants that.
